(Don't hate on the ponies. Haters.)
Yeah, I have some real serious issues with the Syfy Network. There was a slight glimmer of hope a few days ago with news that Farscape may be coming back, but now Syfy has once again shown that they under-appreciate their main fan base. They cancelled Being Human.
Too many shows have been cancelled prematurely, Stargate Universe, Caprica, Eureka. Ugh, most Sci-fi shows don't even get good until season 2-3! Many of the cancelled shows get the boot because of production costs, but really, with a supportive and die-hard fandom (which is bound to happen in the Sci-fi community if you produce good material), a network can make money for years to come. Hello? Star Trek anyone?
I get that the networks have to make money, but isn't the whole point of having a network focusing on sci-fi/ fantasy to show sci-fi/fantasy t.v.? Why cancel the relevant shows and continue to air wrestling and reality t.v. shows? Can they at least try to make a somewhat decent movie or miniseries again? Anyways, there is a lot wrong with the Sci-Fi SyFy network. I only fear the worst for future shows, and for the shows currently airing. I'm speaking of you, Defiance!
Arceus forbid that your viewership decreases and your weird tie-in video game falls out of fashion like last year's Pokemon games. With your high production cost, SyFy won't hesitate to cancel you if you stop being a cash cow. Now, I could continue ranting about what's wrong with SyFy and about what fandoms and shows it has forever scarred
(Why, Stargate, Why?????)
But I think the guys over at Furious Fanboys sum it up very nicely. The moral of the story is that you shouldn't cancel shows with lower viewer ratings. Its science fiction, rating and numerous viewers aren't traditionally its strong point. Dedicated fans who dress up for Cons and collect merchandise and forever love a t.v. show are. They will support a show completely if you make it good enough and a stable, constant viewership should be enough. Not every show can be a Lost or a Game of Thrones.
I know, I know, I should be grateful for even getting to see the shows, but still... it hurts. Oh, well. Until the Syfy channel gets is Tribbles in order, I guess I'll just keep watching reruns and be spiteful.
Oh, and one last thing:
Yeah, another Heroes t.v. show....not sure what I think about this...
What do you think about the SYFY channel? What cancelled shows (not necessarily theirs) that you miss? What are your hope and nightmares about the Heroes reboot/ miniseries? Leave a comment below and, as per usual, share if you likey~
*Pinterest = images. Rant = me. Heroes = save the cheerleader, save the world*
